Capture the failure state
Save the original read, modified file, tool log, screenshots, protocol name, voltage record and the exact point at which the operation failed. Record whether communication remains available in OBD, on Bench or in a lower-level recovery mode.
Do not rename unrelated files as originals or assume that another vehicle's file is a safe substitute because the ECU family matches.
Rule out electrical causes
Confirm regulated supply voltage, ground integrity, connector pinout, fuses and relevant network conditions. In-vehicle communication loss can be caused by power or gateway state rather than corrupted flash memory.
On the bench, verify the current tool diagram and board or connector version. Incorrect boot or power connections can compound the original problem.
Build the recovery plan
Match hardware number, software number, memory layout and immobilizer or coding requirements. Decide whether the supported path is protocol recovery, full-memory restoration, service-mode access or replacement and cloning.
After communication returns, verify identity, faults, coding and vehicle functions before treating the case as complete. Archive the final recovery file and a concise account of what was restored.
