Stage 3 & custom-build calibration

Stage 3 is an industry label rather than a technical standard. The real scope is defined by the installed parts, control strategy, available sensor range, fuel system, transmission limits and the evidence supplied by the workshop.

Competition, road and emissions requirements vary by jurisdiction. The completed vehicle must comply with every rule applicable to its use.

Hardware defines the project

A larger turbocharger or injector changes more than a peak-power target. Airflow modelling, actuator control, pressure ratios, injection or ignition, torque estimation, component protection and diagnostic thresholds may all require review.

Development data

The request should state part numbers, actuator types, sensor scaling, fuel specification, engine build details and intended use. Datalogs and controlled measurements are normally required; a generic file cannot validate a non-standard build.

Staged validation

Begin with conservative limits, confirm sensor plausibility and mechanical behaviour, then progress using repeatable logs or dyno data. If the control system cannot accurately measure or command the new hardware, calibration alone is not a safe substitute.
