Lambda feedback is central to mixture control, catalyst monitoring and diagnostics. Sensor codes can be caused by air leaks, exhaust leaks, wiring, fuel delivery, combustion faults, contamination or the sensor itself.

Do not disable legally required catalyst or oxygen-sensor monitoring on public-road vehicles.
Upstream and downstream roles differ
An upstream wideband sensor can participate directly in mixture control, while a downstream sensor may monitor catalyst behaviour. Their signals, heaters and diagnostic tests are not interchangeable.
Diagnose the system
Review fuel trims, commanded and measured lambda, heater operation, exhaust leaks, misfire and sensor response. A fixed reading may be a wiring or control issue rather than a failed sensor.
Calibration responsibility
Emissions-monitoring functions must remain compliant on road vehicles. Software changes should not be used to conceal a catalyst, fuel or combustion fault.

Does a lambda code prove the sensor is faulty?+
No. Wiring, heaters, leaks, fuel control and combustion can all affect the monitored result.
